Renewable energy sources have made their way in Poland for good. Wind energy has become the most widespread, and recently solar energy. These are undoubtedly an inexhaustible source of energy, but they have their limitations. First, they depend on weather conditions. Therefore, the biogas sector is becoming more and more important. Biogas plants generate energy continuously, minimizing environmental pollution through waste management.
A biogas plant is the best example of obtaining electricity and heat in a closed circuit in an ecological way, so important today. The operation of the biogas plant is in line with the assumptions of the concept of sustainable development. Electricity is generated by fermenting only organic matter. Biogas plants contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions and environmental pollution.
Since 2017, we have recorded an increase in the number of operating biogas plants in Poland, but this increase is still not impressive compared to other European countries. Why is it still such an untapped branch of renewable energy, despite its enormous potential? And who is the leader in supplying the Polish market with biogas plants?
Listed company MDI ENERGIA SA in 2014 started the construction of one of the first biogas power plants in Poland.
Since then, MDI ENERGIA SA has significantly contributed to the increase in the number of MW of energy obtained from agricultural biogas. By implementing 5 projects, the company was responsible for almost half of the power plants built in Poland last year. This year, MDI ENERGIA SA commissioned 3 biogas plants (data at the end of June) and is currently implementing 6 more.
MDI ENERGIA SA is a leader in the segment of biogas plants using organic feed. The company's share on the biogas market is estimated at 30-40 percent all power plants under construction.
The company, as a general contractor, comprehensively deals with the project in the "turnkey" formula. At the beginning of the year, MDI ENERGIA SA extended its offer with energy storage. The company sees a lot of potential in hybrid power plants, having already built hybrids: biogas + photovoltaics, as well as extensive biogas plants with a cogeneration system.
- From the very beginning, as soon as biogas plants entered the Polish market, we participate in their comprehensive construction. We are pleased that we can be part of the renewable energy market, while contributing to the transformation of the energy market. We try to react to changes and offer investors the best possible solutions. At the same time, we invite the owners of land suitable for the construction of biogas plants, who are not an investor, who are interested in building a power plant in this place, to cooperate with us. Our 20 years of experience and know-how allow us to carry out the most technologically advanced projects. We have proven technology and use only components from renowned global suppliers for the construction. Thanks to this, the biogas plants built by MDI ENERGIA SA operate with an efficiency of 96% - says the president of MDI ENERGIA SA Grzegorz Sochacki.
MDI ENERGIA has so far built 18 biogas plants with a total capacity of 16 MW, and this number will increase soon.
- Such a number of implementations gives us the position of a market leader. No company in Poland has been the contractor of so many biogas plants so far. Biogas power plants are an important segment of the market, but still few entities decide to invest in this type of investment, which is a pity, because it is currently the most stable solution for obtaining energy with the simultaneous disposal of waste. Biogas plants are the most ecological solution among the renewable energy sources known to us so far. We plan to strengthen this segment with further realizations. The structure of MDI ENERGIA SA consists of several branches all over Poland. The current potential of the company allows for the comprehensive implementation of 15 “turnkey” biogas plants at the same time, including redesign, if necessary - says Grzegorz Sochacki.
